He started his career as an Assistant Director at Boys & Girls Club Inc., Rochester, NY where he used to oversee daily operational activities at the location. Thereafter, Akin Ross served as a Branch Manager at Enterprise Rent-A-Car in Rochester, NY. Here he managed a busy retail office consisting of 25 employees at multiple sites. His duties included Human Resources, goal setting, profitability, analysis of competition, sales and customer service.  Moreover, he was also responsible for the overall management and development of branch employees.

Apart from his professional life, Akin Ross has contributed a lot to many charitable endeavours such as Father House church, Untied Way, and St. Judes Hospital. Over the years, he has gained good fame and reputation among his colleagues.
